Well, blogging has taken a back seat to fatigue. I'm still adjusting to the jetlag. Nothing strange to Rob and Betsy and our other globe trotting missionary and international friends! This, too, shall pass!... I hope quickly!
Cairns is a coastal city surrounded by rainforest. We've seen such diversity of plants, trees, animals, fish, birds and even butterflies and moths. (Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore; nor Ohio!) It really speaks loudly of God's creative power and imagination! Yet, we've heard people explain it away as simply nature adapting or worse yet, someone will anthropomorphised the creation, like the plant "knows" to grow spiky vines that attach and grow to the top of the rainforest canopy. Or the "strangling fig tree" "knows" to not kill the host tree until it secures itself to several other trees first.
But really, they are programmed versus knowing these things, because God designed them to work that way. In a complex, interdependent, and yet orderly way.
An engineer friend of mine at work became a believer in part because he looked at this world and said it just couldn't happen. Such a complex system of systems with so many interdependencies has to have a designer!
We will fly into Port Moresby, PNG tomorrow. By God's design that island has rugged terrain, thick jungle, steep mountains, and wide rivers separating 800+ tribes/people groups. PTL, the Doromu-Koki now have the New Testament in their heart language. We are looking forward to celebrating that with them on Saturday!
